Following previous engagement of EEIA on the topic of the upcoming EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy, foreseen for the first half of 2026, on 25th of February EEIA Secretary General Barbara Weizsäcker was invited to a high-level round-table with Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas. EEIA had the opportunity to underline once more the exhibition industry’s asks and needs, within the travel and tourism industry, starting from structured data and statistics, to strengthen resilience and crisis preparedness, making EU attractive for business travellers thanks to smooth visa and easy cross-border business travel schemes, and d sustainable travel options, such as cross-border high-speed trains, multi-modal ticketing and sustainable fuel for air travel.
EEIA will continue to engage actively with EU institutions throughout the development of the new EU Tourism Strategy, ensuring that business events and exhibitions are fully recognised as a strategic pillar of sustainable European travel and tourism.
